Zelda Presents
Come to my shows!
Zelda Presents is a project with a twofold purpose:
~ to make live classical performances more socially and financially accessible to a broader range of audiences.
~ to provide more opportunities for Houston’s musicians to freely and creatively express themselves without sacrificing their financial stability.
I have other goals as well, such as branching out into other genres, but this is the starting point.
I also participate in a variety of other productions, from symphony concerts to musicals to operas to singer-songwriter shows to other people’s chamber projects, which will be listed under Zelda Plays.
There is so much more that goes into producing shows besides the actual music-making. Countless hours are required behind the scenes daily, and ticket sales only make up a tiny portion of the budget required for things like venue rentals, instrument rentals, music purchases, and most importantly, payments to musicians for not just their performance but also their rehearsal time, which often amount to 10-20 hours. All of the non-performance hours I put into this project are currently unpaid. If you would like to help ensure that these shows continue, you can donate to the season fundraiser or become a monthly donor via Patreon to make monthly contributions of any amount (even $1)! By doing so you would be supporting not only me but also an entire community of local musicians. Thank you in advance!

Fun & Friends – POSTPONED
The original July date had to be cancelled due to illness. Please stay tuned for the new date!
You don’t want to miss this one – we’re venturing beyond the usual string ensemble to include clarinet, piano, and an unusual variety of percussion! This program features music by Mozart and Lou Harrison, and the premier of a piece by local composer John Paddie!
Duos
Saturday, July 30, 6:00 pm at Archway Gallery
Zelda Gray (violin), Merit Rogge (viola)
We are kicking off the 2022 summer season with an array of violin-viola duos! This type of ensemble is not very common because it is a bit difficult both to write for and to perform, but the music is definitely interesting and fun! We’ll be performing music by Martinu, Gardner, Ponce, and Halvorsen (but not the one you know).

This concert has been over 2 years in the making! It was originally scheduled in the spring of 2020, but then a global disaster prompted us to cancel it. This concert is premiering new works for guitar quartet (guitar + string trio) by local composers on faculty at Houston Community College. The Mud Turtle Project is a guitar + strings ensemble co-founded by Marc, Zelda, and friends. We are excited to bring this project back and finally present these works by Allyson Appelbaum, Stephen Yip, and Joe LaCascio. We will also be performing a lovely short piece by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce.

“HBU’s Opera Workshop will present a full production of one of Mozart’s most famed operas, “Don Giovanni.” Based on the legend of “Don Juan,” the opera tells the story of a seducing, high-powered man who schemes, seduces and abuses all those around him, until he is forced to repent or accept the consequences. The opera, originally written in Italian, will be performed in English by HBU students, accompanied by a professional chamber ensemble.”
